Snowfall warning ends in P.A., moves north

Apr 26, 2015 | 9:38 AM

Just before noon on Sunday, the Environment Canada snowfall warning in Prince Albert area ended and moved north.

La Ronge, Prince Albert Provincial Park, Cumberland House, Pelican Narrows and Creighton area are still under snowfall warnings, with 10 to 20 centimetres of snow expected in total.

After a night and morning of slushy snow in Prince Albert, the snow finally started to wane by noon and made its way up north.

According to Environment Canada, the precipitation will fall as heavy snow in La Ronge area, and Cumberland House will receive rain. The highest amount is expected near Highway 106 and Highway 135, and the heavy snow should end by Sunday night.

The snow is not expected to last long with temperatures expected to return to the teens by the latter half of the coming week.

The snowfall warning in Saskatoon ended earlier in the morning.

Highway conditions in central and northern Saskatchewan were not favorable on Sunday morning. Many highways leaving Saskatoon were under “travel not recommended” warnings by Highway Hotline. This includes Highway 11 between Saskatoon and Osler.

All roads branching out of Prince Albert were under winter conditions, including slush and heavy snow, as of Sunday morning.

Travel is not recommended by Environment Canada, which says rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. Nearly record-setting snowfall in P.A.

Saturday’s snowfall in Prince Albert just about broke a record set in 1961. The Saturday snowfall of 8.8 centimetres was shy of the 1961 record by 0.1 centimetres.
