Near four year sentence handed to man who stabbed a Prince Albert taxi driver in the neck

May 21, 2026 | 11:32 AM

A man who attacked, stabbed and robbed a Prince Albert taxi driver has been sentenced to three years and nine months behind bars.

With credit for time served, Wallace Hunt has just under two years left to serve.

The 33-year-old from Little Red River Reserve appeared in provincial court Thursday morning.

The case dates back to January 2025, when Hunt was among three people given a ride from Walmart to an apartment building in the 500 block of 28th Street East.

After arriving at the destination, Hunt, who was sitting in the back seat, stabbed the driver in the neck.

He then got out of the vehicle, tried again to stab the victim, and fled with $120 in cash.

Police found the driver lying in the back seat, and paramedics took him to the hospital. The injury was serious but not life-threatening because there was no vascular damage.

Officers called in the canine unit, which led them to 28th Street East and Fourth Avenue East, where they found a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman. Both were arrested and identified Hunt as the attacker.

Their statements were also supported by video from inside the cab.

Hunt was arrested later that morning after a separate disturbance call at the same apartment building.

Hunt’s lawyer said his substance use played a role and that he was deeply remorseful.

Given a chance to speak, Hunt turned to the victim, who was in the courtroom, and apologized.

Judge Lubyk called the circumstances rare and accepted the joint submission.

Outside the courtroom, the victim showed paNOW a small scar on the right side of his neck.

He said he returned to work about three weeks after the incident, but the attack had a major impact on his mental health.
