Travel not recommended for many Saskatchewan roads

Mar 23, 2011 | 7:21 AM

The situation on Saskatchewan highways Wednesday morning was poor. The Highways Hotline was not recommending travel for much of the province, especially in the west. It's all thanks to ice-covered roads, blowing snow, reduced visibility, slush, icy sections and snow drifts.

Road advisories were in place for the Carlyle, Weyburn, Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Yorkton, Saskatoon, North Battleford and Kindersley regions. Highway 39 was closed Tuesday from Yellow Grass to the Junction of Highway 6 because of a semi jackknifed on the road.

Staff Sgt. Glen Thompson warned that secondary roads were the worst.

“Secondary roads are beginning to drift in, and because of the visibility you can't see the deep snow so caution is advised when driving on any secondary roads right now,” he said.
