Bears squared with Sharks after rare 2-0 loss

Mar 1, 2015 | 7:31 PM

The Prince Albert A&W Bears won’t get the playoff series sweep they wanted after a rare loss to the Battlefords Sharks 2-0 on Sunday in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League postseason action.

This is the first time the Sharks have beaten the Bears since Dec. 5, 2012 when the Sharks won 3-2 in a shootout. The Bears won the following 11 games heading into Sunday’s loss.

Landry Derdall opened the scoring on the power play in the second period for the Sharks—ending a 178:05 scoreless streak against the Bears this season. Morgan Fraser made it a 2-0 game in the third period.

The Bears outshot the Sharks 39-23 but Sharks goaltender Chloe Marshall was excellent, stopping every puck that came her way. Bears goalie Jessica Vance made 21 saves in the Bears’ loss.
