Sask. government warns of timeshare scam

Feb 27, 2015 | 4:58 PM

As many people are preparing for one last jaunt south to get away from winter, the province is putting out warnings about a timeshare scam.

The warning is about a company called Trust Financial Services Group claiming that it buys and sells timeshare packages for Luxury Vacational Property Investment Solutions. The provincial government said the companies are taking money, and then not giving anything in return.

According to the province, red flags that something might be a scam include packages that sound too good to be true, and high-pressure sales that say things like “act now or lose out on a limited time offer.”

The government suggests that people be extra cautious when purchasing packages sight-unseen, research customer reviews about the company online, and check with the Better Business Bureau about the company.

Anyone who believes they might be the target of a scam is encouraged to keep records of the transaction, phone numbers, the name of the salesperson, website, and any additional identification information. They’re also encouraged to call the consumer protection division of the provincial government at 1-877-880-5550, or email consumerprotection@gov.sk.ca.
