Two dead in collision near Canwood

Two people are dead three are injured after a collision near Canwood that police say alcohol and road conditions played a factor in.

RCMP are reporting that around 2:30 p.m. a Pontiac Sunfire and a Ford Taurus were involved in a head-on collision on the 790 grid road, four kilometers west of Canwood.

The driver of the Sunfire, a 31-year-old male, and the front passenger, who is currently unidentified, both died in the collision. A passenger in the rear of the vehicle survived the accident. Police say the vehicle’s occupants were from the Ahtahakakoop First Nation.

The RCMP say the Taurus had two 61-year-old female occupants from an undetermined location who were injured in the accident.

The names of the deceased are being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.

The three were intially treated at Shellbrook Hospital but emergency crews said they are being transferred to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon in serious condition.

RCMP continue to investigate.
