Team Canada makes Morrissey inclusion official at U18 WJC’s; Draisaitl still with Team Germany

Apr 16, 2013 | 7:10 PM

Hockey Canada announced the final Team Canada roster for the U18 World Junior Championships in Sochi, Russia April 18-28 and it should be no surprise Prince Albert Raider Josh Morrissey was named.

Morrissey played at the U18 WJC last year as an underaging defenceman, registering three assists in seven games on route to Team Canada’s bronze medal. Morrissey had eight points in five games at the U18 Ivan Hlinka tournament in the summer leading to Team Canada’s gold medal.

Team Canada has already played both of their exhibition games, losing 4-1 to the United States on Sunday and beat the Czech Republic 5-4 in a shootout Tuesday.

Team Canada will begin their tournament Thursday against Slovakia.

Deutschland Dangler in Russia as well

Fellow Prince Albert Raider Leon Draisaitl has secured his spot on Team Germany. He’ll start his

tournament Thursday against Sweden.

Draisaitl was named the WHL Eastern Conference Rookie of the Year after scoring 58 points in his debut WHL season. Draisaitl represented Germany this holiday season at the U20 World Juniors and had six points in as many games.

All-Raider game

Draisaitl and Morrissey will butt heads on Saturday as both Team Canada and Team Germany will take the ice in Sochi. Both teams are both in the same division in the tournament, Group B.
Morrissey’s Musings

Along with manning the blueline for his country, Morrissey will also be writing a column on Hockey Canada’s website during his time at the tournament. Here’s a link to his latest entry.
