Saskatchewan gets another blast of winter

Mar 15, 2013 | 6:28 AM

It feels more like the middle of winter than close to spring.

Snow overnight, more on the way and bad roads inside and outside Saskatoon are making this morning's commute a bit more interesting.

Alyesia Desiatnyk with the Highway Hotline said today is the day for a snow day if you can.

“The highways have very poor conditions, so if at all possible stay home for now until the crews can get out there working,” she said.

Travel is not recommended is on Highways 11, 12, 16, 14, 7, 60 and 219 around Saskatoon

Saskatoon Police are also advising drivers to take it slow this morning. Officers said Thursday night and early this morning have been so busy with accidents, they lost track. No one was seriously hurt, although quite a few of the accidents resulted in minor injuries. They are asking you to take it slow this morning and use common sense.

Environment Canada's Mike Russo said this system came from the Pacific and stretches all the way from central Alberta to southwest Manitoba. However, he said there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

“The worst of it though should be passing through the Saskatoon area during the morning hours and then gradually tapering off this afternoon,” he said.

But Saskatoon won't be done with the white stuff just yet. The forecast calls for another two to four centimetres or up to an inch and a half on Sunday.
