PA Kinsmen raise $25,000 for Telemiracle

This weekend’s Telemiracle 37 raised $5,546,712 and The Prince Albert Kinsmen Club had one of their best fundraising years this year for Telemiracle.

Jared Devers, president of the PA Kinsmen Club, said through their various fundraising events they were able to raise just about $25,000.

He said the cabaret they held on March 1 raised $7,000 thanks to Goodwin Financial putting up the money to help get the cabaret going so all the money donated that night could go straight to Telemiracle.

They held a pancake breakfast on March 1 as well at Humpty’s Family Restaurant.

Thanks to the Dunn family donating the restaurant and supplies, the Kinsmen were able to raise $1,000.

They also held a fundraiser night during a Raiders hockey game, and many community members had pledge books they brought in to the Kinsmen Club.

Devers said this year they were able to send 16 Kinsmen members and nine Kinettes.

“Telemiracle is always fun. We even kind of lucked out this year; the Kinettes [from Prince Albert] were actually on the stage answering phones when four of us Kinsmen went up on stage and presented the cheque,” Devers said.

“It’s always fun when Bob McGrath gives you the big “Whoo-Rah!” for how much money you raised. Just the reward when you see everybody in the front row there cheering you on, it can’t be beat. I would recommend anybody go down and work Telemiricle,” Devers continued.

Roy McDougall and his Telemiracle horse trek

Two years ago, Prince Albert’s Roy McDougall raised $8,000 for Telemiracle through a four-day horse trek from Prince Albert to Saskatoon.

This year McDougall decided to do the trek again and was able to match that amount.

He left the city on the morning of Feb. 28 from Canadian Tire.

“That day we made is up as far as Duck Lake. We stopped at McDonald’s to switch horses and we kept on going and we got to Duck Lake at about 5 p.m.,” McDougall said.

From there, they left Duck Lake at 9 a.m. on Friday and they got to Osler by 5 p.m.

On Saturday, they left at 9 a.m. from Osler and were at the Old Auction Market near Saskatoon by 2 p.m. that afternoon.

And on Sunday, they left the Auction Market by 10 a.m. and then stopped at the CN station to pick up some kids to bring them to TCU Place in Saskatoon that afternoon.

McDougall was on the Telemiracle stage by 1:20 p.m. on Sunday where he was able to donate $8,005 to the fundraiser.

During his time at TCU Place he had many people some say ‘hello’ to him and the horses and thanked him for his efforts.

He said the horses were in good shape and did well.

He said he had a bunch of people stop him along the way to Saskatoon to make a donation.

They had a police escort going out of Prince Albert and another one going into Saskatoon and right up to TCU Place.

Roy and the horses were happy to get home after the big trek.

“We gave the horses a big pat on the back and all the guys that were helping me. The people we left the horses overnight with, they fed us breakfast both days so they deserve a pat on the back,” McDougall said.
