Accused in Red Earth murder case receives bail

Two men charged with a New Year’s Day murder on the Red Earth First Nation are now out on bail.

Douglas Cornell Head, 19, and Tyson Whitehead, 26, were released on a non-cash recognizance Feb.19 at Queen’s Bench in Prince Albert.

The pair was placed on house arrest and will have to wear an electronic tracking bracelet. The order also states they can have not contact with the victim’s family or each other. In addition both have agreed to attend addictions programing.

Douglas Head and Whitehead are charged with second degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Duril McKay.

Whitehead and co-accused Lenny Head were arrested on Jan.1 after McKay was discovered unconscious by RCMP and later died at Nipawin Hospital. Douglas Head was arrested the next day by RCMP.

Officers had received a report earlier in the day of several people fighting outside a local residence.

Lenny Head was scheduled to appear in court today for his recognizance hearing however it was pushed to Mar.12.
