Business of the Day – Dairy Queen

It’s been a little more than four weeks since the second Dairy Queen location opened on Sixth Avenue East near the Cornerstone in Prince Albert and owner Trent Kachur said it’s constantly improving.

Kachur has been in the Dairy Queen business for 14 years, starting with the downtown location knew 2013 was the time to expand.

“You know it was just time that the people of Prince Albert, they deserve a new Dairy Queen with adrive-thru and everything else like that and we were getting busier and busier over the years that it was just the right time to build a new one,” Kachur said.

Right now he has 55 people on his staff and they’re still looking to create more jobs in Prince Albert.
“We need to get that a little bit higher closer to 70, it does create a few more jobs and so far we’re really pleased with the staff that we have hired and that are working for us,” he said.

“Right now we’ve kind of had a mix of people that are full-time that aren’t in school and we’ve got some that are more mature that are also working part-time. We’ve also got a mix of high school students in there, so we’ve got a pretty good mix right now. As long as you have a work ethic you can work at Dairy Queen.”

Kachur notes the understanding of his customers when it comes to service. He said learning all the products and recipes takes a little time, but they are quickly getting more efficient.

“We’ve noticed a gradual improvement with staff and learning our product and learning how to make it, all the recipes, everything like that,” he said. “Customers have come to our store, they’ve been really understanding because they know what it’s like with a new staff.”

He said a couple things that are different between this new location and the one downtown is the option to purchase an Orange Julius, and the “to the table” service for every customer to improve the experience.
