The deportation of a Romanian woman and her daughter out of Saskatoon on Wednesday won’t happen.

In a text message to Saskatoon's News Talk Radio, Eniko Reka Kincses says the federal deportation hearing scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled.

Kincses and her teen daughter, Boglarka, arrived in Saskatoon four years ago. Her daughter, whose nickname is Bogi, has cerebral palsy but does not need any special medication.

Reka’s lawyer, Haidah Amirzadeh, received a phone call 30 minutes before the hearing letter her know that the deportation had been cancelled and there was no need to have the hearing.

“There was a lot of communication back and forth in the province and the federal department. We have received strong support from our minister of economy [Bill Boyd] and minister of health [Dustin Duncan] in relation to this specific application,” said Amirzadeh.

“We are hoping now that they could process the permanent residence application which she had presented an excellent plan.”

Kincses worked at a care home in Saskatoon until her visa expired. It was then that her visa was flagged.

Kincses said she believes that because she is a single mom, the federal immigration system is concerned they will have to pay for Bogi’s care if she was injured or passes away.

But the small family has four sponsors in Canada — three of them are Kincses' siblings. They are responsible to take care of any financial needs that come up.

Kincses is planning to live in Saskatoon and have her own care home, which would enable to have her daughter at the same place.

If the duo is sent back to Romania, they will have nowhere to go.
