UPDATED: Two men escape from healing lodge

Jan 28, 2013 | 6:08 AM

RCMP are searching for two men who were serving time at a healing lodge near Duck Lake.

Royce Virgil Bear, 31, and Brandon Avery White, 23, were discovered missing from the Willow Cree Healing Lodge during a head count at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Both men were serving sentences for manslaughter.

Bear was sentenced back in March of 2011 in connection to a death at the Shoal Lake Reserve. In 2009, Bear hit a 24-year-old man in the head with a 2-by-4 during an argument, and killed him. He was serving a five-year, 10-month sentence.

He is believed to have escaped with White who was serving an eight-year sentence for manslaughter, and use of a firearm. He was sent to a federal penitentiary back in 2009 following a gang-related killing. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a 20-year-old man.

Bear is described as six- feet-three-inches tall and 278 lbs with brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos on both hands and arms.

White is five-feet-eight-inches tall and 135 lbs. He has brown eyes and black hair with tattoos on his right hand and arm.

Arrest warrants have been issued for both men. Anyone who knows where these men are, are asked to call police.

Corrections Service Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the RCMP when the disappearance of the men was discovered.  CSC and Willow Cree Healing Lodge will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Willow Cree Healing Lodge is located about 60 kilometres south of Prince Albert.
