Milestone for Trans-Canada highway near Maple Creek after flooding

It took months, but four-lane traffic has resumed on the Trans-Canada Highway near Maple Creek.

It marks another step in the province's recovery from this summer's flooding. Raging floodwaters washed out a section of the road back in June. It was a huge blow to the transport industry. For a while, trucks travelling east to west had to go up to Saskatoon and then back down just to get to Calgary.

It's a crucial stretch — the province says approximately 4,400 vehicles per day travel on this section of Highway 1.

The work isn't totally finished, but the Highways ministry is letting all four lanes re-open until the next construction season.
