An updated plan for the annexation and proposed industrial development in the south east of the city, south of Marquis Road, is expected from the City of Prince Albert early in 2011.

City Manager, Robert Cotterill gave an update about the annexation site on Wednesday at a land developer’s forum.

He said advice from residents in the neighbourhood had been taken into account and balanced with businesses and land developers that were already interested in coming to the city.

“We’re spending our time looking at the issues raised by residents and seeing if we can deal with their concerns,” he said. “But at the same time we have had developers and companies come see us that are interested in doing business in P.A. so we’re trying to find both land for the short term and the long term.”

Cotterill said, concerns from the residents meant more detailed plans were needed. He said only a small portion west of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore would be used and, if necessary, the city would consider optical or sound barriers.

He added, plans were still tentative and that ultimately, the residents would see them.
“I’m committed to going back to the residents first before I go back to council, at least with some of the ideas I’ve developed,” he said.

Cotterill said there were no specific dates for the bringing the plan to the public, but said February would be the earliest.
