Bros. accused of kidnapping pass on bail hearing

Jan 30, 2012 | 1:03 PM

There will be no bail hearing for two brothers accused of stabbing, robbing and forcibly confining a Saskatoon man on Jan. 14.

The Mooswa brothers appeared in provincial court Monday wearing bright orange sweaters and grins directed toward friends and family in the gallery.

They're facing multiple charges, including attempted murder for an alleged attack against a 26-year-old man.

Jeremy Mooswa's defense lawyer Jack Hillson said both men chose to remain in custody.

“They're in effect agreeing that the judge is not likely to grant them bail,” he said.

“They are intending to plead not guilty to the attempted murder charge.”

The incident started at a party in the 900 block of Preston Avenue, when the victim was stabbed at gunpoint, then forced into his own car when he convinced his assailants he had money elsewhere.

When they were passing through the downtown area the gun went off inside the car, narrowly missing the victim and stopping the vehicle — then they jumped from the vehicle and ran to the police station at about 4:30 a.m.

The victim's assailants fled in his vehicle, which was set ablaze at 11th sTreet and Circle Drive later in the morning.

The Mooswa brothers will likely get a trial date during their next court appearance on February 23rd.
