Mark McNeill fired a goal and set up the winner in the third period in the Raiders' 3-2 win in Everett. However, his impact went much further.

The Chicago Black Hawks first round draft choice controlled the game whenever he was on the ice and skated through Silvertip defenders all night.

The only thing that stood in the way of a magical night for McNeill was the goal post. He blasted a slap shot off the iron early in the third period while the Silvertip were leading 2-0.

McNeill's high rising wrister into the top corner about seven minutes into the second period gave the Raiders their 2-0 lead. It was a major league conversion of a superb solo effort that started at the Raider blue line.

Rookie Josh Morrissey opened the scoring about 2 minutes into the second period with a high wrister of his own from outside the left wing circle. Up until then the Raiders held a comfortable territorial edge after some early first period heroics by goalie Eric Williams.

The 18 year old from Vancouver made three great saves in the early going including a terrific trapper snag of a Tyler Maxwell one-timer from the right wing circle after a cross-ice pass.

Williams and the Raiders were in total control in the third period when an “oops” by the Raider netminder resulted in the first Silvertip goal. Willams thought he was shoveling the puck to one of his own defensemen in the corner during a Silvertips power play, but it was all star Everett rearguard Ryan Murray who fed Maxwell in front of an open Prince Albert net and all of a sudden it was a one goal game with 12 minutes to go.

However, the Raiders responded  shortly after Todd Fiddler was foiled on a clear cut breakaway, as Jonas Knutsen stuffed home a McNeill rebound to restore a two goal lead.

The desperate Silvertips pulled goalie Kent Simpson with about 2 minutes to go and it paid off as a seeing-eye slap shot by Murray from the point found its way past Williams through a massive traffic jam in front of the Raider net with a minute-and-a-half left on the clock. The Raider defense was solid the rest of the way preserving the 3-2 victory.

The team's improved defensive structure through the entire game drew post game praise from Coach and G.M. Bruno Campese who arrived in time to see the final two periods after attending a league meeting in Calgary. The Raiders also outshot Everett 42-29 and outchanced them by about the same margin.

The team is now 2-and-1 in the U.S and have an overall record of 3-5-0-1. with a tough test facing them tonight in Tri Cities. The Americans have a 5-and-2 record including a 3-and-0 mark at home and are coming off Sunday's 4-0 win in Portland.

Opening face off is at 8 o'clock Saskatchewan time with broadcast time on 900 CKBI and 900ckbi.com set for 7:30.
