SIAST ready with contingency plan

Nov 11, 2010 | 6:25 AM

Plenty of questions but few answers as instructors and support staff at SIAST threaten to go on strike.
Contract talks have broken off.
In a statement released late yesterday, the province urges both SIAST and Saskatchewan Government Employees Union to “roll up their sleeves” and reboot negotiations.
Gary Earles, with SIAST, thinks that's the best solution.
“It’s going to take us and the union to get there so we are obviously going to need further dialogue and further negations,” he said.
Earles said they need a quick agreement that is in line with other public sectors.
He said they are thinking ahead.
“We have a contingency plan in place but we can’t really implement specifics of that until we know exactly what we’re dealing with in terms of nature of the strike.”
The union refuses to comment, but it's calling for a mediator from British Columbia to help forge a new deal.
