Roughriders officially release Tad Kornegay

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are releasing veteran defensive back Tad Kornegay after there was no interest from other teams in the league to make a trade for the seven-year veteran.

Although, many believe the move was made to send a message to the team after a 0-3 start to the season but General Manager Brendan Taman says that's not the case.

“I don't believe in doing that. This is a situation where he was hurt in (training) camp and didn't really settle into our system and never sensed that he fit in and I think he'd say the same thing. We reached a point where it wasn't going to work going forward so we decided to do what we had to do.”

Taman adds that this was also a production decision and a monetary decision as well as Kornegay has not played up to his normal standard and after signing a new deal after a career year in 2009, the team gave themselves some cap room.
