POLL: Council takes its attendance for 2013

Jan 7, 2014 | 5:21 AM

Most of Prince Albert’s elected members of council attended nearly all of the 46 regular and special council meetings in 2013, but one councillor had a perfect attendance record.

Coun. Charlene Miller attended all 46 meetings, but she also attended every one of the 24 committee of the whole council in camera meetings and all 20 executive committee meetings. Mayor Greg Dionne had a near-perfect attendance record, missing only one special council meeting.

“I think regular attendance is important, because that’s why we’re elected,” Dionne said after Monday evening’s executive committee meeting. “We’re elected to represent the city at the meetings, so I think it’s very important. And I’m amazed that Charlene Miller made it to all 46 [meetings].”

A council resolution passed in 2009 requires administration to file a report that compiles the attendance record for the elected members of council for the in camera, executive committee, special and regular council meetings. The attendance report for the previous year is made public every January.

This year started out with near perfect attendance at the first executive committee meeting – with all elected members of council attending, with the exception of Coun. Don Cody.

“As you can see, the majority of us made it to 45 [meetings],” Dionne said. “And most of that is due [to] that we want to take holidays and it’s pretty hard to take a holiday when you have to be here at every Monday. So, I was very pleased with the attendance records.”
