SaskTel reports strong year in 2012

SaskTel is reporting a very good year of business, thanks to many people in Saskatchewan hanging up their home phones and switching to solely using their cell phones.

The crown reports at $129 million net income in 2012, with operating revenues of $1.2 billion, up five per cent from the year before. Max Entertainment Services revenues were above budget thanks to unexpected customer growth.

Because of the high numbers, SaskTel is handing over a dividend of $84 million to the government.

2012 Highlights:

-Wireless revenues were up 9.6 per cent (almost $40 million) to $454.2 million
-There were 13,000 more wireless customers than in 2011, for a total of 607,659
-Average revenue per wireless subscriber: $62.99
-MAX revenues reached $125.6 million
-Internet and data services revenues increased to $142.4 million
-SaskTel's capital spending was $319.8 million, focusing on growth in capacity and coverage of wireless and wireline networks in Saskatchewan.
