Muskoday First Nation Community School celebrates accessible playground opening

Sep 21, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The Muskoday First Nation is now home to a brand new accessible playground structure.

The park was opened earlier this month with a celebratory barbecue and ribbon-cutting at the Muskoday First Nation Community School.

“The goal of this accessible and inclusionary playground apparatus is to provide opportunities for positive behaviors that create a healthy, safe environment in which all students can enjoy active learning,” a press release from the school read.

The new playground located on the grounds of the Muskoday First Nation Community School is wheelchair friendly and “embraces the importance of inclusion of all students” in playground activities.

Rhonda Bear, a community school coordinator was responsible for researching various playground equipment and companies to make the park a reality.

The opening was accompanied by a barbecue, officially welcoming students back for another school year. Both the playground and barbecue were in part sponsored by a company based out of Humboldt.

“[Muskoday First Nation Community School] is very appreciative of the new inclusive playground structure that was made possible through Indigenous Services Canada – Jordan Principle Grant,” the press statement read. “Thanks also to 1Stop Playgrounds Ltd. for the quality playground and sponsorship of the Welcome Back Barbecue.”
