Three-year-old saved from sewer tank

Aug 22, 2018 | 5:00 PM

A three-year-old girl is in good condition after falling into a septic tank yesterday.

Parkland ambulance responded to the call on the Wahpeton First Nation on Aug 22 around 9 a.m.

Once they arrived on scene, they found bystanders had rescued the child prior to paramedics’ arrival. The child was then taken to hospital for further care.

While Lyle Karasiuk with Parkland Ambulance was unaware of the circumstances which led to the girl falling into the tank, he reminded people to be aware of their surroundings.

“People need to be just a little bit more observant this time of year, or any time of year when you have dugouts or you have wells, or you have systems that are out there in the area,” Karasiuk said. “Make sure ‘A’ that they’re covered and ‘B’ that they’re marked.”

He noted it doesn’t take much for a child to end up in a small body of water like a dugout or well, and find themselves unable to escape. He reminded people to keep their eyes on their young ones at play through the remaining summer months.
