Northern Bears bounce back in Wednesday win as Mintos drop Tuesday contest

Oct 29, 2026 | 12:00 PM

The Prince Albert Raider Northern Bears got back into the win column on Wednesday night, capturing a 3-1 victory over the Saskatoon Stars at the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre.

The win ends a five-game losing streak for the Bears, as they improve to 2-5-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the campaign. All five losses came on the road.

“I think previously in our games, we worked really hard and came up short and it was nice last night for the girls to get rewarded and come out with a win,” said head coach Steve Young.

“We’ve never questioned their work ethic. We just wanted to make sure that they raised their game and did more thinking in the game and execution, and I thought they responded very well to that last night.”

The game was the first one back at home for the Bears since Sept. 27, when they defeated Weyburn 3-2. It also marked the beginning of a lengthy home stand as the team won’t be back on the road until Dec. 5.

“The home stand will be a little bit different,” he explained. “I think since I’ve been in the league, the schedule has really never been like this, so we want to make the best of it. We’ve been on the road quite a bit with our tournaments and league games, [and] home will be a place where we want to make sure we gain some ground in the standings.”

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Northern Bears gained the upper hand over Saskatoon on Wednesday midway through the first period, when Zoey Krienke’s second of the year opened the scoring.

Later, in the second period, P.A.’s Emma Christison netted her first goal of the season just over a minute and a half into the frame to extend the lead to two. But Saskatoon had an answer with two minutes to play, as Jersey Kittelson found a way past Tess Kelly to cut into the deficit.

It remained 2-1 until the final moments of the third, when Adyson Wallin scored the empty net goal for her first of the season, and to put the game out of reach 3-1 for Prince Albert.

Kelly had 18 saves in the win, while Saskatoon’s Tarynn Sutter turned aside 27 shots in the loss as the Stars fall to 1-5-2-0 on the year.

Contacts take care of Mintos in dominant road showing

The Prince Albert Mintos took one on the chin on Tuesday night during a rematch with the Saskatoon Contacts.

The Mintos dropped a 7-2 decision at the Art Hauser Centre after being shut down offensively as the Contacts outshot P.A., 32-17.

The loss is just the third in regulation for Prince Albert as they drop to 9-3-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the year, while Saskatoon remains undefeated at 9-0-0-0. Despite this, the Mintos remain in first place in a tie with Moose Jaw.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Contacts got on the board first midway through the opening frame with Joshua Koehler finding the back of the net. That lead lasted until the final moments of the period when Ethan Janzen cashed in on the power play for his team-leading ninth of the season.

Tied at one in the second, Saskatoon jumped out to a 3-1 lead within the first five minutes, before Maxim Cooper answered back for the Mintos to pull P.A. back to within one.

After Koehler’s second of the night made restored the Contacts two-goal lead, Saskatoon went off in the third and tallied three more goals from Cullen Stephenson, Landon Reschny, and Dilin Coulter-Suttie. That put the game out of reach, giving the Contacts the 7-2 win.

Rookie netminder Cohen Kuntz was in goal for the Mintos and made 25 saves in the loss, while Saskatoon’s Felix Derksen stopped 15 shots.

Following Tuesday, P.A. gets 11 days off before their next series against Moose Jaw at the Art Hauser Centre, where they will play two games with the first on Nov. 7 and the second on Nov. 8.
