U-19 Astros tied for first at nationals; Aces updates

The Prince Albert Astros find themselves in a three-way tie for first place at the 2018 Under-19 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in Napanee, Ont.

They have a 5-1 record, tied with both the hosting Napanee Express and the Caledonia Athletics.

The Astros were 4-0 until they fell to the Express 8-2. But they rebounded and beat Chayee Bourras from Newfoundland 2-1 to get back in the winners’ circle.

The Astros have two games remaining on Friday against two Ontario teams, the Chepstow Lang Farms (4-2) at noon and the Caledonia Athletics (5-1) at 6 p.m.

Under-16 Aces

The Under-16 Aces are 1-3 after two days at the Under-16 Girls Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in Winnipeg. They split their Thursday days, beating the Calgary Kaizen 9-3 before falling to the Rivercity Hornets 3-2.

They will wrap up their group stages with another pair of games on Friday, against the Fraser Valley Fusion (2-2) from B.C., at 12:30 p.m. and the Vaughan Vikings (2-2) from Ontario at 7 p.m.

Under-14 Aces

The Under-14 Aces suffered their first defeat of the Under-14 Girls Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in Montreal on Thursday, falling 8-1 to the Brampton Blazers from Ontario. The Aces had wins in their two previous games, 11-0 over the Newfoundland Selects and 4-1 over the White Rock Renegades from B.C.

The Aces have two games on Friday, against the Tri-City Titans (3-1) from B.C. at 11:30 a.m. and the B.C. Thunder (1-2) at 3 p.m.
