Threatening text puts local man on edge

What would you do if you got a personal text in the middle of the night threatening your life, your wife, and your kids?

A man in Prince Albert said it happened to him recently, and he considered moving away as a result.

Matt – who asked for his last name to be withheld because he still has some safety concerns – told paNOW he was working overnight last week when he got the text message on his phone. He said he assumed it was from his wife asking him to come home, but he got a nasty shock when he read the message.

“It was a text saying ‘I can’t wait to put a bullet in your head … and too bad your kids won’t have a dad soon,’” Matt said.

He immediately called the police.

“Like any dad would do, the first thing I did was call the police and then I rushed home, grabbed my family and took them out of town,” he said.

Matt said he only recently moved to Prince Albert and was naturally upset by the ordeal. He said his fears only subsided after he learned others had received similar texts.

“I was five minutes away from moving my family away for a couple of months,” he said. “Then I got the call that it appeared to be just a hoax … I don’t like the fact that this is happening, but it does make me feel better that it seems I’m not the only one.”

The text appeared to have been sent from a Vancouver number, which Matt tried to call back but without success. Matt said he has no idea why he was targetted, or why the text might have been sent to him.

The Prince Albert Police Service confirmed a report was made and said the matter is still under investigation, though it appeared to be an isolated incident.
