Odyssey Productions set to bring ‘Vegas to Prince Albert’

Mar 3, 2018 | 10:49 AM

Four hysterical matrimonies inside a traditional, almost tacky, white, pink and red wedding chapel adorned with giant hearts and of course, the King himself, Elvis Presley.

That is the basis of Odyssey Productions upcoming dinner theatre performance, Four Weddings and an Elvis, set to take the stage March 15 to 17 at Plaza 88.

“The show has four different scenes where four unique couples get married and they all show up in Las Vegas for their own special reason,” Director Dave Mulgrew said as the cast rehearsed at the Margo Fournier Centre Friday night. “It is a perfect dinner theatre play.”

Sandy, the owner of ‘Sandy’s Chapel of Love’ — a small Las Vegas wedding chapel, plays host to a number of outlandish couples. The four-times-married-three-times-divorced owner of the chapel has certainly seen her fair share of matrimonies, and the nuptials in the play do not shy away from the oddities of the past or what could only be expected. The audience will be treated to four couples attempts at ceremonies in the chapel. This will include everything from two lovebirds eager to get married by Elvis as revenge on their exes to a gentle postal worker and tough ex-con who want to tie the knot before the police arrive.

Twelve cast members will help tell the tale to the audience, according to Mulgrew, who did admit to some speed bumps along the way. However, the director promises nothing but gut-wrenching comedy from “a well-written play, that has lines that are very conversational.”

This is not Mulgrew’s first times at the helm of a production. The director first took to the stage in Prince Albert in 1982, returning in 1993 and have cast plays nearly every year since.

For those perhaps unfamiliar with the production, Mulgrew urged audiences to come willing to cede to the spectacular that is Las Vegas.

“We are bringing Vegas to Prince Albert,” he said. “You need to come down here and think, ‘I am going to Vegas and I am going to have a nice dinner and have a few cocktails and enjoy the show.’”

Working to bring the lavish entertainment of Sin City to the Gateway to the North, Mulgrew said showgirls and a live crooner will be hand to daze crowds while they enjoy their meal. Tickets are available at the Canadian Tire box office.
