For the second week in a row, Prince Albert’s Jannessa Keays is returning home with a bronze medal.

Just one week after winning a bronze medal at the Quebec Open, the 14-year-old won bronze at the Ontario Judo Open in Toronto.

Keays got off to a great start, winning her first fight, and also obtaining some redemption.

“The one girl I beat, had beaten me in Quebec a week ago, so it felt good to beat her,” she said.

Keays competes in the youth 16-and-under division, for 70-plus kg and said the competition was quite intense in Toronto.

Her second opponent had a winning history.

“She was a national champion….she was really tall and really strong,” Keays explained.

The teenager said the tournament was a great learning experience, pickup heavily on how not to be afraid of her opponents.

Keays will next compete at provincials in Watrous on Nov. 18.
