PHOTOS: City prepares for snow removal season

With winter on its way, city officials are reminding residents of Prince Albert’s snow removal policy.

Although no major changes have been made to the city’s strategy after last year’s heavy snowfall, roadways manager Brent Kennedy said crews will be changing tactics in order to tackle one problem.

“On some of the priority one routes, we’re going to try and remove some of the snow through the winter instead of leaving it there until spring, which we normally do, to keep the streets wider,” said Kennedy.

One of drivers’ key responsibilities is to make sure they obey parking ban signage, said Kennedy.

After a major snowfall (four inches or more at once), a parking ban is issued on Priority 1 roadways and at other points throughout the winter parking bans may be declared on Priority 2, 3 and 4 roads.

During the last several years, compliance has been improving, said Kennedy. “I think people are getting more of an understanding of, you know, we’re coming in and we’re trying to do a job for them.”
