Man accused of aggravated sex assault gets bail

A 39-year-old Prince Albert man accused of picking up a young woman in his van and sexually assaulting her outside of the city has been granted bail.

Barry Pruden was granted bail Thursday morning in a Prince Albert Provincial Court room as his parents looked on.

He faces one count of aggravated sexual assault in connection with an incident that allegedly happened July 6.

The Prince Albert Police Service had responded to a call from a 24-year-old woman who claimed to have been assaulted. She told them she accepted a ride from a man in a silver van and he proceeded to drive her outside of the city where she was assaulted.

The woman told police that she was taken back into Prince Albert and was dropped off at a local business.

The woman provided a description of a man and the silver van, which was radioed out to patrol cars. A man and vehicle matching that description were located and Pruden was arrested.

Several conditions for his release were contained in a bail report that was not read in court.

Pruden's next appearance is scheduled for July 30.
