George Reed, former Saskatchewan Roughrider, releases book

The Saskatchewan Roughriders, Sask Gaming, and Print West teamed up to help finance a new book about the team's most famed running back George Reed.

Only 1,500 copies of the book, that took eight years to make, will be made available.

The book was penned by Regina author John Chaput who admits it was very difficult writing a book about George Reed.

Chaput says the famed Roughrider is not a person who sells himself or his accomplishments, and is a fairly guarded person.

Reed himself wanted the book done as a way to show his gratitude to his adopted home, but he also offered his thanks to his kids and his wife of 50 years.

“I’d like to thank Angie and my children for being a part of this, and for all their support over the years. Thank you,” said Reed holding back tears on Thursday.

It was a rare display of emotion from a man not prone to showing much.

The book will be on sale in Saskatchewan Roughriders store locations.
