Area youth encouraged to apply for grants

Jul 30, 2019 | 3:00 PM

A local community group wants young people to know about some grant opportunities.

Prince Albert and Area Community Foundation has three grants available each worth $15,000. In order to qualify applicants must be between the ages of 15 to 29 and live in either P.A., Shellbrook or Birch Hills.

Marilyn Peterson, executive director with the P.A. and Area Community Foundation, said they have some specific goals in mind with the initiative.

“The idea is to encourage and develop leadership skills in youth,” she said.

The money for the grants comes from the RBC Foundation and aims to help young people who are interested in working on projects to help enhance sustainability and fairness. Peterson said any approved project would have to be beneficial to the public at large.

“Perhaps food security, environment, community needs of that type,” she said.

Applications will be accepted until September. Once the deadline has come, the P.A. and Area Community Foundation’s committee will go over the applications and decide on what projects will be awarded.

Peterson said these grants provide the chance for people to look at new solutions to challenges currently faced. She stressed they are hoping to help people bring new solutions to the forefront.

“People should really let their imaginations go and get rid of thinking in the box,” she said.

Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to visit the community foundation’s website.
