Meanwhile, the U17’s will have a much steeper mountain to climb as 12 teams are slated to compete this weekend. The Astros will spend the round robin competing in the ‘Red Pool’ which, on top of Newfoundland, includes Équipe Québec, Ontario’s Napanee Express and Elmira Heat, and the host Cache Creek Chaos.

On the opposite side, the ‘Black Pool’ includes Équipe Québec Relève, the Tara Twins and Tavistock Athletics from Ontario, Nova Scotia’s Brookfield Elks, the Yukon Sundogs, and the Valley Blue Jays as the other representative from Saskatchewan.

Unlike the U15 Astros, the U17’s will play five games before Saturday’s playoffs, with their remaining schedule as follows:

Thurs., Aug. 6 vs Cache Creek Chaos – 2 p.m. (3 p.m. Sask. time)

U13 Aces aiming for Western title in Balgonie

While the Astros battle in B.C., the U13 A Prince Albert Aces trekked to Balgonie in Southern Saskatchewan this week for the U13 A Western Canadian Softball Championship.

The tournament brings together nine of the best softball teams from across the Western part of Canada, with two teams coming from each province. With the White Butte Storm competing as hosts, the other teams from Saskatchewan include the Aces and the Saskatoon Raiders.

The Red Deer Rage and Calgary Adrenaline are representing Alberta, the Westman Magic and Winnipeg Lightning hail from Manitoba, and the Ridge Meadows Pride and Westside Outlaws made the trip from B.C.

Entering the tournament, according to the team’s GameChanger page, the Aces are a force to be reckoned as the club has a record of 28-4 across all games this season. That includes 16 wins in their last 19 games.

The Aces begin their Western run at 2 p.m. Thursday against Westman, which will be followed by a contest versus White Butte at 5:30 p.m.

The remainder of their tournament is as follows:

Fri., Aug. 7 vs Calgary Adrenaline – 12 p.m.
Fri., Aug. 7 vs Ridge Meadows Pride – 3:30 p.m.
Sat., Aug. 8 vs Winnipeg Lightning – 8:30 a.m.
Sat., Aug. 8 vs Red Deer Rage – 2 p.m.

A champion will be crowned on Sunday afternoon.
