Saskatchewan colors don’t fade in Prince Albert

Nov 28, 2010 | 9:21 PM

Prince Albert bars and lounges were the scene of lots of green and white Sunday night.

Rider Nation was alive and well, as fans throughout the city prepared to watch the Grey Cup rematch between the Montreal Allouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

When it was first obvious the Riders would suffer another devastating loss there was no shortage of disappointment from fans who commented on how it felt like a repeat of last year.

Despite two years in a row losing in the final, the green and white doesn’t seem to be fading in Prince Albert.

“I’ve seen a lot more rider pride this year. Today everywhere you went was a sea of green,” one rider fan said.

Even with the loss, one longtime fan couldn’t help but show his rider pride.

“We are the best. We’ll always be the best in my opinion. But I’ve only just lived here for 58 years.”

The two lone Allouettes fans, sitting in the lounge in Boston Pizza still found only good things to say about their Rider counterparts calling them the best fans in the CFL.

The final score for Sunday’s game was 21 -18 for the Allouettes, but Rider fans in Prince Albert have put the past behind them and are already looking ahead to grey cup 2011.
