Shore Gold has inked an agreement with an aboriginal group regarding its proposed diamond mine project near Prince Albert.

Shore Gold announced Wednesday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wahpeton Dakota Nation. The agreement allows for discussion on job and business opportunities for the reserve in the event the estimated $1.6 billion dollar project goes forward.

Shore Gold is currently working toward a production decision this year and could start construction in 2012 once environmental approval is given from government.

The company recently submitted its environmental impact statement with the provincial government and is expected to receive the necessary permits within a year.
