Recording overseas for rock-and-rollers with Prince Albert roots

It was only about four months ago that Prince Albert’s Magic Trees released their debut album, Everything Is A Song. Now the four piece rock-and-roll troupe is getting ready to take their talent overseas.

The group consists of two couples, Jason and Colleen Moon and Ian and Jaime Dickson. They are going to England to write songs for their next album and also “share some music and share some love,” Jaime Dickson said.

Magic Trees had their last show in Prince Albert, Friday when they performed some of their classic rock repertoire at Belly Up Pub and Grill.

“When you get hired in a bar, people want to hear their favorite cover songs so that they can dance and stuff like that. “

She added that at this show they pulled out a few more of their originals to give fans a taste of what the band has been up to.

The group leaves Mar. 30 for England. As for when they return, Dickson said “we are just going to keep going while were having fun and while were able to be playing music. After a while of traveling you just hit that point where you know it’s time to head home.”

Along for the trip, Magic Trees will be bringing a couple of guitars, a keyboard for Colleen and a set of drums. The rest of the equipment they need they plan to get in England.

“Once you get out there in the music scene you’re constantly meeting people that have a recording studio here or play bass over here or different stuff so it’s kind of a unique opportunity to be meeting up with some other talent in England and collaborating and maybe coming up with something totally new.”

Dickson said their music has always been about including others and new ideas and exploring truth.

“It’s a cool opportunity to meet with other minds that might think a little differently than we do over here in Saskatchewan.”

She said they have a few places in England where they plan to play but for the most part they will see where the wind takes them.

“We’ve been playing most weekends just around Saskatchewan lots and Manitoba as well but to be able to do this as a full time job is a really cool thing. “

Magic Trees are not waiting to leave before they start gathering content for their next album. Dickson said they constantly have songs and ideas on the go but “whether they’ll make it on to the new album is another story.”
