After two years, grandmother’s killer unidentified

It is the anniversary of a grisly murder in East-Central Saskatchewan

The small community of Usherville was stunned two years ago, on March 7, 2009, after hearing news that 51-year-old Gwen Gregory was found dead inside a house. At the time she was babysitting her young grandchild. The child was not hurt.

RCMP ruled foul play was involved.

The killer has still not been found, and no charges have ever been laid.

“This is by no means an investigation that is dormant. It is very active,” said Sgt. Paul Dawson, with the RCMP.

Over the course of the past two years, police have conducted more than 300 interviews, performed aerial and ground searches and utilized forensics teams from both Regina and Manitoba.

“We've done a great of work on this file and have a good understanding of a lot what occurred, but there are some other pieces to the puzzle that we haven't come up with all the answers to yet.”

Dawson said they can not simply accuse someone before they have the evidence to support charges.

He said that RCMP continue to remain in contact with the family and keep them updated on the progress of the investigation.
