Herrod named playoff MVP

Brandon Herrod, a Raider Forward, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player for the playoffs.

“It’s a great feeling, I mean it’s an important award, so I’m very proud of myself,” said Herrod, moments after the award was announced, during a press conference at the Art Hauser Centre today.

“Like I said before though it’s a team effort we had in the playoffs here and a lot of guys could’ve deserved this award, I mean, everyone battled their own, played with heart and everyone paid the price,” he said.

“There’s a lot of guys that are hurting still from the games, so it just shows how much we wanted it.”

Herrod, 19, originally from Meadow Lake, led the team in playoff scoring with one goal and five assists for six points in as many games in the Eastern Conference quarter final against the Saskatoon Blades.

The Raiders haven’t been back on the ice for two days, as that final game wrapped up the season.

“Talking to the guys we just wanted to practice today or something, go on the ice, at the time we might be a little bit cranky about going out for practice, but when it’s gone you sure do miss it,” Herrod said.

This award, as well as the playoff run is big motivation for Herrod who said he is hoping for a shot at a professional tryout.

Herrod finished the regular season with a 10-game point streak, playing on the team’s top line with Mark McNeill and Todd Fiddler.
