Fire department sheds light on busy time of year

Apr 20, 2015 | 4:42 PM

The Prince Albert Fire Department (PAFD) was kept busy over the weekend, responding to 22 calls.

In those calls crews responded to 13 grass fires and six dumpster fires.

Deputy Fire Chief Corey Rodgers said this is normal for this time of year.

“Every year it usually either starts in late April or early May and it goes for about a month that our grass fires start picking up,” he said Monday.

He said dumpster fires are dying off because of the change from the big black dumpsters in back alleys to personal household green bins.

“There are still a few dumpsters in back alleys and [those fires] are usually intentionally set,” Rodgers said.

This weekend fire crews also responded to a vehicle fire and an outside equipment fire.

The fire department’s social media presence on Facebook provides further details on what firefighters experienced when dealing with a forest fire north of Prince Albert.
