Sherling explained that the system will also help cut down on human error. When she administers a shot to a patient, she will enter the record into the system; Panorama only allows her to select a shot that is actually in the clinic’s inventory.

“It provides a better system for recording and monitoring immunization records.”

Ottenbreit highlighted that Panorama will not only benefit nurses, but the public as well; email notifications can be sent out when a patient is due for an immunization.

At this point, Saskatchewan is only accessing two of the five components Panorama offers. Inventory and immunizations are now online, and Saskatchewan will eventually also use the family health, outbreaks, and investigations components. 

Panorama cost $8.7 million to implement, with $5.1 million of that coming from the Canada Health Infoway.
