Big top tent heads to P.A. Exhibition Grounds

Jun 1, 2015 | 7:21 AM

Red and yellow will fill the sky above the Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds later this week.

June 6 and 7 the WA WA Shrine Circus will be in town performing five shows under a big top tent.

Bill Forrest is part of the provincial circus committee and said the circus will blow the audience away.

“The first thing they’re going to notice is a huge tent, now we were fortunate to bring that tent to Prince Albert two years ago. It was a huge success, people loved it.  It seats 3,000 people; it’s a huge tent and what they’re going to see inside the tent … is a ‘wow’-type thing,” he said.

Throughout the performance there will elephants, horses, clowns, and a famous circus family called the Wallendas who perform high-wire acts.

“It’s a family show, that’s the part we like,” he said.

This isn’t the first time the WA WA Shrine Circus has graced the ring in Prince Albert.  The group has a long history in the city, according to Forrest.

“A number of years ago we came, actually, quite regularly we went into the Art Hauser Centre, but a few years ago it was decided, well, it was time for the folks in P.A. to get the big experience and that’s to bring the big tent,” he said.

He said they almost sold out last time they were in Prince Albert at the South Hill Mall location.

Forrest has been in the circus business since 1982 and loves almost every minute of it.

“I’m still doing it and it’s quite a while beyond 1982.  I enjoy it.  I enjoy the interaction with people.  I like working with all kinds of folks across the province and actually across the world,” he said.
