Waskesiu Lakeside Festival – a new event brings music and nature together!

The community of Waskesiu is hosting its first ever music festival August 21-23, 2015, in the heart of Prince Albert National Park.

This family-friendly event will engage families and youth through music and nature. Set near the shores of Waskesiu Lake, the Waskesiu Lakeside Festival is much more than an outdoor music concert. It brings together main stage performing artists, paddleboarding/canoe excursions, conservation speakers, children’s programs, street theatre, musical shows and more in one of the most stunning locations in the province!

Superintendent, Alan Fehr, notes, “Festivals and events are an integral part of the national park experience. The Waskesiu Lakeside Festival supports the National Conservation Plan by bringing families and friends together for another summer blast where they can connect with Prince Albert National Park.”

The Waskesiu Lakeside Festival builds on the strengths of diverse community groups and vibrant volunteer base. Numerous organizations such as the Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce, Waskesiu Community Council, Waskesiu Wilderness Region, Parks Canada Agency, Waskesiu Foundation Inc. have banded together to develop and implement this multi-day event as part of an overall strategy to increase visitation and revenue to the national park and local businesses. This is another opportunity to enjoy summer and the great outdoors and gives visitors the opportunity to learn and connect with nature through

While it is larger than events carried out in the past, the Waskesiu Lakeside Festival is exactly the type of endeavour that is supported by the Waskesiu 2020 visioning movement that all of the above groups are directly involved with. “The Waskesiu Lakeside Festival celebrates the enthusiasm and passion residents, volunteers and visitors have for Waskesiu. It also exemplifies the sense of community, collaboration and meaningful commitment we collectively share,” commented Jim Kerby, Chair of The Waskesiu Foundation Inc. The core of this plan is to ensure that Waskesiu and Prince Albert National Park continue to be, and are enhanced as, vibrant, environmentally healthy, and economically viable tourism destinations.

The festival has the potential to become a signature marquis event that visitors will be attracted to year after year. It’s an event that creates an excellent family experience in a one-of-a-kind and special Saskatchewan setting.
