Friends worry about missing P.A. woman

Jun 18, 2015 | 7:05 AM

Friends of a woman who has been missing for more than a week are expressing their concerns for her safety.

Danyell McDermott, who is 22-year-old Danielle Nyland’s roommate, said her friend would often leave for a few days once in a while, but would always stay in touch.

“She would always have her cell phone and she would always message us, telling us she was just out having a good time or she was at the lake,” said McDermott. “She would keep in contact with us.”

McDermott says that she has trouble going near Nyland’s room.

“I don’t even walk into her bedroom anymore,” said McDermott. “I just open the door and hope she’s there … but she never is.”

Another friend, Kurt, said he’s been thinking about her everyday she’s been gone.

“I’ve been thinking about it like every hour pretty much.”

On the night Danielle was last seen, McDermott recalls the last thing Nyland said to her.

“She told us that she was going to go bowling, but we figured it was too late to go bowling,” said McDermott. “So we just thought, she’s going to the bar.”

Kurt said he was with Nyland at Movado’s the night before she disappeared, but lost track of her after around 2 a.m. when she left with a group of people he didn’t recognize.

Nyland was reported missing to RCMP on June 10 after she was last seen in the early morning hours of June 8 in Shellbrook. Her cellphone was found at the end of a driveway outside of Shellbrook.

Family and friends had joined RCMP over the weekend to search for Nyland.

According to RCMP, she may have been wearing a white jacket, black leggings and a black tank top with a pattern on it.

Anyone with information can call the RCMP at 30-747-2606 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
