OK Hjertaas Golf Tournament filling up fast

Aug 13, 2015 | 8:25 AM

A great fundraiser for the Victoria Hospital Foundation is right around the corner.

The 18th Annual OK Hjertaas Golf Tournament will take place Aug. 21 at Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert.

Sherry Buckler, executive director of the Victoria Hospital Foundation, said they are almost full for registrations.

She said the tournament is a way for the foundation to raise money to purchase equipment or make improvements at the Victoria Hospital.

This year the tournament is raising money to purchase a new instrument washer for the Sterile Processing Division.

The hospital currently has three of these units but two of them are eight years old and are starting to breakdown as they are run over 16 hours per day, every day, for the whole year.

“It’s a great event, there’s lots of great new sponsors this year. We’ve got amazing prizes to give away. Everybody comes back year after year. There’s a lot of friendships made on the golf course, a lot of teasing, a lot of fun. It’s classy, it’s well run and everybody has a good time,” Buckler said.

An awards banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the end of the day following the tournament and there will be a wonderful meal provided as well.

Buckler said without their event sponsors they wouldn’t be able to run the tournament.

She said River Park Memorial Chapel and Conexus Credit Union are once again their title sponsors, “They are very loyal to this tournament and we thank them so much for their involvement.”

The Workers Compensation Board will be providing the BBQ lunch before the tournament at 11:30 a.m. and RBC Wealth Management will be providing the banquet following the awards.

Buckler said Cameco is providing all the beautiful golfer prizes.

“We have so many sponsors and we are so grateful for that.”

When it comes to prizes Buckler said they changed things up this year.

“We’ve got some different prizes. We’ve got a variety of different things from a trip for two anywhere WestJet flies to a free tattoo session with Poor Deadly Ink right here in Prince Albert.”

There is beautiful jewelry from Bocian Jewellers and Happy Camper is providing some Roughrider camping gear along with a chance at multiple $10,000 cash prizes for a Hole-In-One as well as quads and Sea-Doos from Pine Power Sports Marine.

Other auction items include handmade mahogany furniture by Dr. Michael Walker, hot air champagne balloon ride, a beer fridge from Partners Furniture stocked with beer from Travelodge, a trail cam and 12 carbon arrows from Boneyard TV Hunting Show (Wild TV), fly in fishing trip from Pine Island Resort and two Motley Crew Tickets for the Dec. 10 show in Saskatoon.

“We’re really excited. We really changed things up this year and we’re really hoping that people will enjoy themselves,” Buckler said.

Last year’s tournament was able to raise $86,000 and saw the majority of that go towards purchasing a new echocardiogram machine for the Department of Anesthesiology.
