Fall ladder safety

Parkland Ambulance has a few tips for tackling fall projects like washing windows and cleaning out eaves troughs safely.

When using a ladder:

  • Make sure the ladder is on flat solid ground
  • Ensure the ladder is the right height for the job to prevent standing on the top rung to reach your goal
  • Do not over-extend your reach to the point that the ladder might tip over
  • When using extension ladders be sure you have someone holding the ladder in place.
  • Always lower your extension ladder in the yard to avoid any contact with overhead power lines.

Flu shots

According to a release from Parkland Ambulance, more indoor activity increases the risk of catching flus or colds. Parkland is encouraging people to consider a flu shot this fall, and to stay home when feeling sick. Also, wash hands frequently with soap and water to prevent the spread of a cold or flu.
