Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse finishes eighth in 100 metres at Shanghai
SHANGHAI — Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse finished a disappointing eighth in the men’s 100 metres at the rain-drenched Shanghai Diamond League meet Saturday.
In the final race of the night, British sprinter Reece Prescod was victorious in 10.04 seconds. It was initially believed Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian (10.05) won, but video replay showed Prescod came out of nowhere in lane nine to narrowly defeat the fan favourite.
Chinese sprinter Xie Zhenye was third in 10.17 and world champion Justin Gatlin was seventh in 10.20. De Grasse, from Markham, Ont., was eighth in 10.25.
De Grasse raced last month at the Drake Relays for the first time since tearing his right hamstring days before last summer’s world championships.
