A day for P.A. families

Families in Prince Albert were treated to a day entirely dedicated to them on Saturday, as the fifth annual Family Expo took place at the P.A. Exhibition Centre.

The event featured over 30 vendors and booths, sporting a wide array of family related activities according to Donna Strauss, co-chair of the Prince Albert Early Childhood Council.

“It’s an opportunity to showcase the organizations that work with families in Prince Albert and also to provide some fun opportunities for families with young children,” Strauss said.

“We do a fundraising event in the fall each year and we use those funds to support the expo. It’s really just an opportunity to showcase what’s available in Prince Albert.

Strauss noted that each booth featured an interactive element, encouraging young children to become involved. A fire engine and ambulance were also made available for children to explore.

“We also have face painting and a photo booth and we also have a quiet corner for families to get away from some of the noise,” said Strauss.

“We also give away a free book for every child.”

Strauss added that attendance over the years has varied, but they expect roughly 800 to 1300 people to take in the single day event.

“The Early Childhood Council just tries to promote the importance of early childhood, and how it affects children for the rest of their lives,” said Strauss.

“We would like people to come down and learn what’s available for supports in P.A., and just come out and have some fun with us.”

The event runs until 4 p.m.
