Prince Albert Christmas tree lighting ceremony receives $15K donation

Oct 19, 2026 | 4:42 PM

With a little more than two months left til Christmas, the annual tree lighting ceremony at Prince Albert City Hall is already promising to be better and brighter.

Northern Lights Community Development Corporation has donated $15,000. Committee member Dawn Kilmer was grateful for the extra money they can use to upgrade the lights on the tree.

“So this year we have a few more surprises now that we have the great funding from the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation,” she said.

The event, scheduled this year for Wednesday, Dec. 2, attracts hundreds of people each year and has included horse-drawn wagon rides, carolling, and treats in the form of hot chocolate and s’mores. There’s also been a special children’s area inside city hall where they can participate in crafts and write letters to Santa.

The Grinch may also make an appearance.

“We’ve been talking to the University of Saskatchewan and the students there might do some things,” Kilmer hinted.

“It is a really beautiful event where families just come and enjoy each other and we kick off the Christmas season.”
