Prince Albert running events keep hospital expansion fundraiser on pace

Oct 19, 2026 | 3:00 PM

A pair of running events in Prince Albert helped make some great strides for health care.

The Raiders Run on Saturday and the Summit Run on Sunday raised money for the Boreal Healthcare Foundation and the Equip the Vic Campaign. In total, almost 260 people participated in the two events. Andy Cohen, Manager of Donor Engagement and Communications, said the community support was incredible.

“To have the Prince Albert running festival, an entire weekend event, come together and help out local healthcare and bring the community together is so cool.”

The Boreal Healthcare Foundation’s massive campaign is raising funds to equip the hospital expansion, bringing in equipment like the first MRI north of Saskatoon. The new MRI is expected to perform about 2,000 scans annually, according to the foundation.

“It’s going to cut down on travel costs. It’s going to cut down travel time, especially for residents in La Ronge and Pelican Narrows, to name a few. It’s just going to be a huge thing,” Cohen said.

Meanwhile, the acute care tower is scheduled for completion in spring 2028 and will increase the hospital’s inpatient capacity by about 40 per cent, to 242 beds.

Prince Albert’s Cory Dyck finished first in both the 5km race on Saturday and the 10km race on Sunday.

“It’s a great event, and I love it when events like this happen in Prince Albert.”

Collectively, Dyck finished both races in less than an hour, and that’s despite the very windy conditions on Sunday.

“It’s really nice when it’s with you but really not nice when you’re going into it,” he said.

Both weekend events were organize by 321 Go Running and event director Jonathan Huntington said it was great to see all the participants.

“It was also encouraging to see runners travel from 19 different Saskatchewan communities to Prince Albert to run on the weekend.”
