A Prince Albert woman sentenced to eight years for killing her adult nephew has failed to convince the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal to reduce her time behind bars.

Alisha Sky Ross was convicted of manslaughter in the death of 35-year-old Brett Charles. Provincial court Judge Healey imposed a sentence at the higher end of the range, saying Ross “had other options.”

Healey also cited Ross lying to police about what happened and failing to call 911 after she stabbed Charles three times as contributing factors.

Both Ross and Charles were extremely intoxicated on the day in question at the end of March, 2025. Charles refused to leave Ross’s apartment when asked, which led to her yelling threats to kill him and stabbing him with a kitchen knife.
